Strictly Social Dancing is run by Sarah Hamlett. Sarah has been a Community Dance Practitioner since she was 19 years old. She has enabled several dance groups to exist and perform in their community throughout this time. Sarah qualified as a Community Dance Leader in her early twenties, and has had a bright career enabling many people to take their dancing to festivals, carnivals and the stage. Sarah is highly driven by enabling dreams to materialise in community performances for people of all walks of life. Sarah is a qualified Fitsteps Instructor with Gold rating, an initiative started by Strictly Come Dancing professional dancers – Fitsteps are classes that build your fitness by learning the Ballroom and Latin Steps as solo dances, in a way that is suitable for beginners.
Lee Miller began the Woodingdean classes in 2021, and for years Sarah and Lee ran this business in partnership. Lee moved away in the summer 2023, so Sarah now runs it solo. Sarah and Lee ran many partner dance courses together and many socials. But, the most popular way to dance has been for people to mainly dance in their own space. Sarah now leads the Woodingdean classes similar to how a Zumba or exercise class is led, although she explores different group formations through the space, as well as travelling dance. Occasionally we explore simple partner dance and duet work. The majority of the movement is Latin and Ballroom based, although we explore other styles too.
